Adam Vanderwaard was born in Melbourne Australia and started in the construction industry shortly after completing high school in 1994.
After a 4 year carpentry apprenticeship, he continued employment with the master builder for an additional year before starting out on his own.
In 1999 he left Australia to travel the world!
While traveling he met his wife and shortly thereafter relocated to San Francisco where he managed a cabinet shop for a year. This garnered him with invaluable cabinetry skills and extensive knowledge of the San Francisco bay area and its suppliers.
Self employment beckoned and by 2002 Adam was back on his own, creating a tight circle of SF based referral clients.
In 2004 they relocated to Australia where he continued self employment, subcontracting to a bathroom remodeling builder. This initiated extensive knowledge of bathroom design and construction.
A move back to the States in 2007 saw them settle in Boston, where he worked for a small fine furniture manufacture. This fine tuned Adam’s attention to detail and gave him extensive knowledge of furniture design and construction.
After being away from SF for 5 years, it was time to come home and so by mid 2008 they returned to the city by the bay.
Adam was able to tap into the old network of clients which has helped him to expand and grow Vanderwaard Custom Inc. into a large referral base across the Bay Area.
Mid 2011 saw Adam move his business to the next level by becoming a California licensed general contractor.
This has allowed the business to concentrate on kitchen and bathroom remodels along with custom furniture and cabinetry.
